Outside with new pots

Right where we have the sink, just above it, in the gas house, a new garden was born!

Now seriously, being Portuguese I like to take advantage of anything that can hold a plant in. You can see all kind of different plant pots around here. These crocks are made in Portugal 🇵🇹 - that’s good! - but they got to the end of their time. Big feet, as they were David’s, and mine are going to join these soon. They are good quality, but we just wear a lot our clothes and shoes living in the mountain. It’s quite surreal how this kind of soil and work just wears out the materials so fast compared to living in a flat non country side!

But, coming back to gardening and beautifying the outside of the Tiny House, here we have the new pots with incense plant!

It looks gorgeous and it is a beautiful way to reuse the plastic shoes!

What? A new window?

This window vision started so long ago that we don’t recall all the details,  but from what we remember, David asked Sara (a very good friend of ours and a very talented artist) to turn a small window into something beautiful that could look like a stain glass. David imagined something like a mandala and I thought at the time of a rose or something related to that.

At the end, we just said to Sara that we trusted her and that she could create something that she felt it would be the right thing for the Tiny House.

She called it “Afecto” - affection in Portuguese.

How beautiful is it?

One of the windows that I love the most here has been transformed into something even more alive and it is going to give so much to this beautiful, warm and homey place.

Solar panels are up!

 Here they are!

Amazing work that David has done!

And the treatment/painting of the walls is done. Ready for winter!

Outside sink

This sink was a big find for us and we have used for a long time when we were living in the caravan.

Since we moved into the Tiny House, this is an outside sink on the back of the house. Very useful. But the time has come to beautify it!

Painting the wood structure and after this we will paint the sink itself with a silver color. Let’s see how is going to look like.

Treating the outside wood walls

Painting the Tiny House and all wood structures with the linseed oil, pine tar and aguarrás, right before the big rains that are going to be coming next week (apparently).

Solar panels 2

Day 2 of moving the solar panels.

Structures are being made and panels are being moved.

Not an easy job, but doable with care and attention.

Kitchen ladder done

More solar panels structures on the making

David is giving everything to make this happen!

Today he went out to buy the metal structures and he is spending the afternoon putting them together.

This is so important before the rain and the cold weather come strongly. We want to make sure that we have all the power that we need for short days coming.

One panel is up!

Kitchen revolution...

 ... and storage revolution.

Really.

This little piece of metal is going to make our life’s so much better!

Why?

This multiplied for many more it’s going to be hanging in the ladder, up in the kitchen’s roof. And with that, a lot of our pots and other things are going to be hanging there, so we can have free space in the cupboards for storing the food.

How amazing is that just a small thing makes such a difference?

Moving a solar panel

 Or not!

This was a second attempt with me as David had moved one solar panel already, but somehow, with this one, he couldn’t do it on his own and with me!

It has to be done tomorrow!

Solar panels

 Today was moving day.

Better, prepare for moving the solar panels.

They have been siding on the path t the second ruins since ever and before we have decided to move them int the mountain side up above the Tiny House. But it was obvious now that the right place for them to be is the roof of the house.

The wood structures are not going to be used in the roof. For now, David is setting up a set of metal structures that we had bought ages ago and now we are happy to finally use them.

David spent all day working on this. First deciding what is the best position as it is important that the totality of surface gets in contact with the sun and, because we have 5 solar panels, would we put them all standing up or one of them laying down?

We had to choose between what it looks nicer and what is more efficient. Both are possible and it would be better to have all the solar panels laying down on the roof. But we definitively want to have the most power possible coming from these amazing pieces, so this is the result of today:

Treating the wood

Today David treated the walls of the Tiny House with the usual mix of pine tar, “águarras” and linseed oil.

Right before the rain comes and after all the summer sun, it’s the perfect timing!

Exciting decluttering day

We woke up today with decluttering mode!
Boy, did we work hard!

As you know, our bathroom has not been made yet, so it has been a storage laundry area. Well, that is not happening anymore! We cleared the space, cleaned and organized it so well! We even found spider nests in the window seals - no good joojoo!

And David worked on an extra shelf in the kitchen - so necessary!
